Current Updates:

  • New for 2026 – I have removed PayPal as a payment option for the time being.  95% of orders have been through e-transfers domestically so I have decided to drop the PayPal and the associated fees.  This also allows me to prevent any and all fake orders and fraudulent payments with stolen credit cards through PayPal.
  • If you are wanting to order from overseas send me an email and we can set up a payment with PayPal.  This would be the only exception.
  • *Shipping to the USA – I won’t be taking orders to the USA at this time.  US Customs is requiring a lot of extra work that (as a 1 man business) I have decided not to chase. Sorry
  • The current lead times are 14+ weeks which does not include shipping time – Please take this into consideration for your custom order.  If you are in a rush check out the ready to ship gear.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Top Quilts are one of the more popular items the LSoH makes.  Yes, these are used on the ground in a tent or cowboy camping.  They are also used in a hammock.
  • Ready to Ship items have lead times listed on the item for shipping. Anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks. Check that specific item out for the details you need.
  • You MUST make an account to create an order. It saves me time in the future when you have questions and wanting specific things. Without an account I cannot look up past orders. This also prevents fake orders from being created to try out stolen credit cards (on guest accounts).
  • All your information is kept private. I don’t sell information and will not Ever. Phone numbers are for shipping and if you need to be contacted immediately in regards to an order question. (In fact I delete old accounts so if you can’t login, remake an account – keeping accounts safe)
  • Our family is pretty outdoorsy which is great for gear testing. It does mean we are often away from cell coverage so please be patient with responses.  If a couple days goes by and no response send me another message on instagram or facebook in case your email got caught in the spam folder.
  • Here’s a big one.  Why the long lead times?  I am a one man business that makes everything myself.  A lot of businesses get their whole quilt made overseas, or even just the shells made overseas at 1/3 the cost.  If they stuff the quilts themselves they can claim they are made domestically.  I refuse to do that.  Each quilt is made by me from start to finish. Takes a bit longer and the cost is more. Gives me piece of mind that I have made each item.  It also means no one is copying my designs overseas easily.

To contact me please send me an email. The reason I stress the email is because I am often busy sewing/making up your orders and the phone isn’t the best way to ask me questions. An email knocks things down and saves time. Then if there is something specific a call comes into play. If you decide to call please leave a message and I will return your call. I am getting plenty of overseas telemarketing calls so I do screen numbers.

Payment:

E-Transfers  are to  be sent to the above address. Email separately with the E-transfer password although for most it should autodeposit.
Location: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Canada
I manually accept the etransfer so it may take a day or so for you to get the follow up email.  (Done during normal awake hours)

  • Returns and warranty:
There are no returns or cancellations on gear so please make your decisions carefully. Please contact me immediately after an order if you need to change something.
    • With lead times being what they are I have to predict and order material / down to cover orders to help keep those times low (so we aren’t waiting). So once your order is received I order what’s needed so it gets here.
    • I don’t allow returns on items unless there is a defect in manufacturing which I will correct. If you have any questions please contact me before ordering to make sure you get all the information needed.
    • Special circumstances do occur and sometimes your order is something I normally stock and I haven’t cut the fabric and we can work with it. In this case it would be a 20% cancellation fee. (doesn’t include simple changes of colors etc. Can make that happen unless fabric has been cut)
    • Zippers are considered a normal wear and tear item. Taking care of them will extend the product life. (please don’t use your feet to open a zipper)
    • Please note that over compressing your down quilt in a compression stuff sack is not covered under warranty.  It hasn’t happened yet but please remember that inside a quilt there are baffles which, if you over torque can tear out stitching and damage a quilt. It’s something I have seen online and it’s pretty obvious what’s happened.
    • Repairs: Contact me if you have damaged your items. It maybe possible to fix at a minimal or no charge (depending on the circumstance) – You would pay shipping costs.
  • Shipping
    • Flat rates which don’t quite cover the shipping.  I pay the extra above the amount. It seems fair.
    • Items that have been shipped and shown as being delivered by the carrier stand as being delivered.  Please watch for your parcels and if you have issues with stuff being stolen make me aware of the fact. Most items are shipped with signature being required. Overseas items often cannot have this ‘signature required’ option if you are wanting a low shipping price.  Either opt for the more expensive shipping (overseas shipping is communicated and exact over email) or be on top of your carrier/delivery person. I am not responsible for theft off your doorstep.  Carriers will not pay out insurance on it either.
    • NEW! All orders will be sent using tracking. No more letter mail rates. Either stuff is getting stolen or people aren’t being honest about orders arriving. This affects small items such as rope/line and ridgeline organizers (etc). If you ask for it I can still do it (but I won’t cover the package/envelope going missing)
    • Please understand that shipping takes into account the actual shipping and the packaging.
    • When you receive your package do not use a box cutter or sharp knife to open it.
It might take a few more seconds to open but it will save you from damaging your new gear.

Fabrics
Any of the fabrics can be used as an inner or outer layer.  If you are going for the least bulk for your pack pick the 10D and simply be careful with snagging it.  It’s pretty tough stuff.  If you are doing occasional hikes and not using a 35 liter pack (small) then pick the color of your choice and the temperature rating that suits your needs. Heavier fabrics are easier to care for and launder when needing a cleaning.

  • 20D – The heavier of options.  Strong and has an amazing color depth over any of the other options.  Colors are amazing. Usually the wider of fabric options. Weight is approx 1.0-1.1 oz/yard. Feel is silky and soft.
  • 15D – A mid weight option that is pretty close to weight to the 20D. Weight is from .9 to 1.0 oz/yd.  Has a nice even color with a soft buttery feel. (Not real butter of course but a soft vs silky feel)
  • 10D – There are two options here.
    • .71 oz/yd The .71 is an in-between feeling fabric (.67 to 15D) The .71 is amazing for toughness and windproof.
    • .67 oz/yd.  The .67 has only a few color options.  (Dark Olive, Moroccan Blue and Black Taffeta while they last) Quite soft to the touch and nice as an inner fabric.

I get asked for personal preferences on fabric.  Honestly if you aren’t doing 5-10 day hikes don’t worry about the lightest fabric.  Choose the colors that make you happy on a rainy day.  I have a larger pack for down bulk (tends to puff up) and pick 10D .71 for my solo hiking.  I can usually get my pack weight around 13lbs before food and water regardless of the quilts.  Your weight and bulk will be made up with other items that need your attention.  But for other hikes and base camping with day trips I have some fun color combo’s.  I am spoiled gear wise but it’s nice when it comes to cleaning up at the end of the season.  If you are usually wearing a base layer when sleeping then don’t worry about how a fabric feels.  Your base layer handles that point of contact.

Quilts and Down information:
The Toaster and Serratus Quilts are designs created by myself using custom baffle heights and down weights. I am constantly testing the gear to make sure it performs in the outdoors. The quilts are all Comfort Rated meaning they should get you down to the rated temperature comfortably (and I have to say this is for most average people.)

The down I use in the quilts is produced within Canada and sourced within Canada. It’s not brought in from overseas and China. We have such nice down available here that it’s nice to keep the business local helping our economy.

Design : The designs all implement a closed baffle design. There are no openings within the quilt for down to move to where you don’t want it. It takes a bit more work but it’s worth it. Down stays put. All my shells are made by myself personally here in Canada. Nothing is outsourced outside Canada.

Down: I currently offer down which is ethically produced and sourced within Canada. None of the down is bleached. All down insulates the same so fill power is fill power. The down used is untreated which I have found to loft better than the equivalent ‘treated’ down.

  • You will see some smaller down particles come through any material. The lighter the material gets, the more you will see it.  It comes through in clothing articles like jackets and you will see it come through quilt material regardless of the IDFL labs scoring.
  • By it’s very nature all down clusters have spines and will try and work it’s way through material. If you see something coming through the fabric try not to pull it out. Reach through the fabric from the opposite site and pull the down back inside. The fabric will seal itself, as the threads come back together.

Care of your Down Quilts : Treat your quilt with care and you will get many years use out of it. Always air them out after use. If you are on a multi-day hike spread them out on your tent or over the hammock (TQ’s) UQ’s get more air flow hanging under the hammock but still need airing. So if your taking a lunch break and it’s sunny spread them out.

Pad / Quilt straps and attachments:

  • Quilt / Pad straps are now using flat elastic in combination to adjustable clips to make attachment easy and ‘adjustable’. Each topquilt comes with one strap and pad clips standard. You can change that in your order if they are not wanted.

Hammocks (general information) : You, Safety and Your Gear. aka ( terms and conditions)

Please be careful using your hammock. You are responsible for maintenance of your gear and it is subject to wear and tear. Taking care of it will extend its life and enjoyment as well as your own. Please be aware that your use of the gear from Little Shop of Hammocks means that you agree to acknowledge and accept all responsibility of the risks of Hanging / Hammocking and hold Little Shop of Hammocks harmless, and indemnify and protect them against all liability arising from from activities using our gear. You accept sole responsibility for your actions.
That being said, basically don’t do silly things.

  • Don’t hang higher than you are willing to fall. This is important.  Make sure anything below the hammock which could create safety concerns is removed. Rocks, logs etc. (clear them out of the way.) In the same breath don’t hang your hammock or gear where it could rub on the ground, rocks or sharp pokey things. That just wrecks your gear.
*Dogs, cats, animals in general will puncture hammock material and make a mess of your bugnetting and lightweight quilt fabric. As will knives, keys and sharps objects that have in your pockets or carrying into your hammock with you. This is not normal wear and tear. Just a warning.
*Treat your zippers with care. Yanking on them, opening / pushing against them with your foot is never advised. When closing your zipper take care to not catch the bug net/mesh in the zipper. Zippers are a general wear and tear item so take care of them. (not covered under any warranty)

Down Quilts (general information):

  • Your quilts are made with some of the lightest weight fabrics available so special care is required to prevent any damage to them. If you fail to follow these instructions you can damage your quilts severely.
    • If you choose to use a washing machine, only use front loaders on gentle.
    • Use proper down detergent only, that being said I have used woolite in a pinch (Use less rather than more. It doesn’t take much detergent to do the job)
    • Hand washing works in a large basin or tub with warm water. Gently push the air out of the quilt in the water and knead the quilt allowing the water to saturate the down. Then a minimal amount of kneading, pushing the water through the material. Drain the tub and knead out the water. Do no wring or whip the quilt around. This can damage the quilt. Fill the tub with fresh water and repeat to flush the detergent out. Repeat until the water is clear and not cloudy.
    • It may take several rinses to remove the detergent and contaminants.
  • Careful moving the quilt around while saturated with water. It’s heavy and the internal baffles can be easily damaged this way.
  • Drying:
    • Never hang a wet/soaked down item on a line. Lay it on a drying rack so it’s supported while heavy. Drying outside in dry air with air movement works great.
    • Once the quilt is fairly dry you can move it to the dryer with tennis balls. Only use Fluff / No Heat setting. Minimal heat can cause hot spots in your dryer and melt the fabric. NO HEAT. The tennis balls will help break up the clumps of down. It may take 3-4 hours to dry a quilt.
    • Once the quilt is dry you will need to shift down around with gentle hand pushes.
    • Do not Dry Clean.
  • Storage : Store loose in a large breathable bag. Do not store in the stuff sack.
If you choose to not store your down gear in a larger storage bag you may encounter loft issues later. This is your responsibility.
  • DWR – Durable Water Resistant coating : Can eventually wear/wash out of the shell material. Feel free to use a spray on DWR revitalizer on the shell fabric. Don’t use wash in DWR solutions. It can leave residues in the down and affect the loft and properties of the down.
