Material Colors & FAQ

    • Quilt Material properties :
      • Both 15D and 10D are heat calendared on the inner side (which is inside against the down insulation) . This gives them a down proof quality as well as a built in windproof characteristic. The outer side (which is against your skin) feels softer to the touch.
      • Please keep in mind that as a light weight fabric you should be careful when stuffing and unstuffing it in bags. You don’t want to accidentally break stiches in the baffles.
      • As a reference many commercial sleeping bags use a 20D or 30D (+) fabric. Bulky and heavy yet harder to destroy.
      • 10/15D Info:
        • Both Fabrics are good for outers and inners of the quilts.
        • Both have excellent water resistance.
        • 10D will be slightly lighter and less bulky than 15D.
      • There are two variations of 10D used at LSoH.
        • .7 oz/yd which is a bit firmer in touch and also has more windproofed and down-proofed characteristics.
          • Burnt Orange, Dark Olive, Deep Purple, Moss, Forest Green
        • .67 oz/yd is slightly lighter (negligible) and softer to the feel (which is excellent for the inner side). When choosing the proper 10D fabric I will always default to the .67 fabric for the inner side of a quilt.
          • (Black taffeta, Moroccan Blue, Dark Grey, Deep Purple)
          • Some hikers like the black taffeta on the inner for feel and having a black side to help the sun warm up and air out the quilt easier.
    • Quilt Material Colors:
  • 15D Ripstop
Some colors are more transparent so white down will brighten them, while grey down will tone down the brightness.

    10D Ripstop
Some colors are more transparent so white down will brighten them, while grey down will tone down the brightness.
